You have arrived at the Puerto Vallarta airport and once you get through immigration and customs, you will go through an area with taxi companies and tour operators trying to get your business. If, at this time, you are not interested in tours etc. keep walking and say “No gracias”. There will be enough time, once you are at the Belenos Inn to organize tours etc.

There are a several of ways to get from and to the airport in a diverse price range. For the bus and local taxi you will need pesos! (ATM in the arrival area if you didn’t bring any pesos.)

LOCAL BUS

The cheapest (Approx $100MXN) and most adventurous way for sure. Once you leave the airport, cross the highway via the pedestrian bridge. Right in front of “El Taco de Marlin” you will find the bus stop. You will need to wait for the green bus from the Compostela line with a San Pancho sign in the window. These buses come on the hour and will take about an hour or so as it makes many stops along the way. It will drop you off on the side of the highway at the entrance to San Pancho. It will be about 1.2 km/.75 mile to Casa Belenos on foot. Sometimes there are taxis waiting at the gas station across the street, at the entrance of San Pancho.

TAXI

Authorized taxis, right at the airport, will shout for your attention once you pass the final exit doors. Make sure to negotiate for best price, between $1900 – $2500 MXN – this can be paid in cash or credit card (make sure to check if they accept credit cards!).

Cheaper street taxis can be found just on the other side of the highway outside of the airport. Just cross the highway via the pedestrian bridge. Make sure to negotiate the fare and have cash ready – between $1000 and $1400 MXN.

UBER

As with most airports, Uber cannot pick up right at the airport. Just cross the highway outside of the airport via the pedestrian bridge, and request an Uber once you are there via the Uber App (you’ll need to have this installed on your phone). Rate approx. $1000 MXN depending on availability etc.

LIMOUSINE SERVICE

Priced higher than a regular taxi, but you will ride in style in a large air-conditioned Suburban or other SUV that will seat up to 8 people (Book prior to trip). If needed, they will stop at a large grocery store such as Mega or La Comer so you can stock up. Most drivers speak English.

If you want more mobility during your stay, we recommend you book a rental car before your trip. All major car rental companies are represented either at or near the airport.Over the years we have come to rely on Gecko Car Rental for a hassle free experience. They will pick you up at the airport and will explain some of the different traffic rules when you ask them.

The drive to San Pancho is about 50 minutes and you can stop at a big grocery store on your way to stock up on supplies. Take your time to drive to San Pancho especially the second part as it winds through the jungle over a small pass.

If you get stuck behind a “traffic train” due to a slow moving truck or bus, it is normal to put on your hazard lights/blinkers.

Once you have passed the turn off for Sayulita you are almost there. You will see the sign for San Francisco as this is the real name of the town (San Pancho is the nick name). Pull onto the right side of the road and wait until the road is clear from both sides before crossing into town. Follow the main street, Tercer Mundo until you get to Calle Americana Latina, turn right. Once you are past Calle Egipto and Checko’s Bar we are the first white building on your right after about half a block.
